Antoine Provencher completed his hat trick to help Team Bergeron defeat Team Talbot 6-4 on Thursday evening at the Centre d’excellence Sports Rousseau in Boisbriand.
Provencher stood out at the best possible moment. Team Talbot was leading 2-1, when the Collège Charles-Lemoyne Riverains forward scored at 9:53 of the first. He added another in a shorthanded situation towards the end of the period, before completing his hat trick on a breakaway 26 seconds into the second frame.
Despite the score, Team Talbot dominated the shots on goal. But the Yellows benefited from the brilliance of goalkeeper Mathys Fortin, who made 51 saves. For the losing side, Alexis Joseph was the top producer with a goal and three assists.
Team Talbot got off to a good start in the first period with some solid puck possession, and it paid off. Alexis Benoît scored his team’s first goal. Cameron Haye replied at 12:57, but Joseph made it 2-1 just 72 seconds later.
Trailing 4-2, Team Talbot came out of the blocks in the opening seconds of the middle period, but Fortin held his own by making some important saves. Provencher completed his hat trick a few seconds later to increase the Yellow and Blacks’ lead.
Louis-Félix Guay’s picked up a rebound that made it 5-2, before Zakary Horvat-Édouard raced to the net to increase Team Bergeron’s lead.
Louis-Étienne Halley tried to wake his team up. He first cut the deficit to 6-3, before breaking through on a Joseph-induced turnover at the blue line, but Fortin made the save of the game with his pad following a quick lateral movement.
Team Bergeron bounced back in the third period. They tightened up their defensive play, while controlling more of the puck in opposing territory. Team Talbot goalkeeper Nikola Antonacci (30 saves) had to step up. Olivier Charron finally took advantage of a power play to reduce the lead to 6-4, but it was too little too late.
Team Bergeron will look to remain unbeaten tomorrow, at 9 a.m ET., when it takes on Team Savage. Team Talbot will be in action at 11:30 a.m. against Team Daigle.
