Team Daigle cruised to a 9-3 win over Team Bergeron to finish the 2025 QMJHL Cup round-robin with a perfect record on Friday evening at the Centre d’excellence Sports Rousseau in Boisbriand.
Thanks to two wins in regulation and one in a shootout, Team Daigle will now play Team Savage in the tournament Final on Saturday at 1:30 pm ET.
James Scantlebury, a candidate as the top pick in the 2025 QMJHL Draft, had his best game of the tournament, scoring two goals and one assist for Team Daigle. He displayed all of his talent, showing great speed and high-end skill. Nolann Héroux also stood out with three assists, as did Benjamin Veitch, Tanner Hayden and Emrick Nolette-Robidoux (one goal and one assist apiece), and Malik L’Italien (two helpers).
With a second game in just over 11 hours for both teams, energy levels were considerably lower than at the start of the day.
Team Daigle got off to an incredible start, however. And with good reason: they finished the opening 20 minutes ahead 5-1, thanks to Scantlebury, Liam Armit, Hayden, Veitch and Nolette-Robidoux. The only member of Team Bergeron to beat goaltender Xavier Halloran was David Messier, who reduced the gap to 4-1 at 7:35 of the first. The blue team led 15-4 in shots on goal after the first period.
Despite the score, Team Bergeron players were on their bench well ahead of the start of the second, and this renewed energy seemed to pay off as they scored the only two goals of the period. Dominic Schnarr made it 5-2 at 7:50, before Cameron Haye followed suit 20 seconds later with a beautiful breakaway deke.
Although Team Bergeron largely closed the gap in shots (37-28 in the end), it was Bruno Gladu and Marc-Olivier Samson’s men who were more opportunistic in the third. Phenwick MacLean, Alexis Desroches and Félix Foucher found the back of the net in a span of 5:25 to start the frame, before Scantlebury made it 9-3 with his second of the game.
Team Bergeron’s defeat means it will meet Team Talbot in the consolation final on Saturday morning, at 11 am ET.
