Team Lecavalier scores nine times to defeat Team Dobson

Team Lecavalier skated away from Day 2 of the QMJHL Cup with its first victory thanks to a 9-4 triumph over Team Dobson on Friday evening at the Centre d’excellence Sports Rousseau in Boisbriand.

Louis-Félix Bourque (2G-1A) and Léo Gauthier (1G-2A) led Team Lecavalier with a three-point performance each and saw teammate Josh Demers score twice. On the Dobson side, it was defenseman Zachary Gill who distinguished himself with a one-goal and two-assist outing.

Between the pipes, goaltender Jacob St-Cyr made 25 saves to earn the win, while Will Cole faced 45 shots in the losing effort.

The game had seemingly just begun when both teams scored their first goal. Yoan Noiseux capitalized for Team Lecavalier just 21 seconds into the game, while Gill replied for Team Dobson 34 seconds later. Despite a mere 15-12 advantage in shots on goal, Team Lecavalier dominated the remainder of the first period, scoring three consecutive goals thanks to Amelio Santini, Bourque and Samuel Roy.

In the second frame, Team Lecavalier extended its lead to 5-1 with yet another early goal, this time from Josh Demers just 16 seconds into the period. Jackson Batchilder cut the lead back to three goals by scoring for Team Dobson at 11:01, but Bourque replied with his second of the game less than a minute later.

Team Dobson went on to score the first and final goal of the third period – Ryan Vhora notched his first of the tournament, before Aaron Chipp did the same on the power play with 30 seconds left in the game. Between their goals, Team Lecavalier got the net moving three more times thanks to the sticks of Jason Faith, Gauthier and Demers.

Team Dobson will now take on Team Marchand, both looking for their first win, tomorrow at noon ET. Team Lecavalier will take on the unbeaten Team Bourque at 2:45pm ET.
