A tight duel sees Team Lecavalier get the best of Team Bourque

Team Lecavalier came away from Day 3 of the QMJHL Cup with its second consecutive win thanks to a 4-3 triumph over Team Bourque on Saturday afternoon at Boisbriand’s Centre d’excellence Sports Rousseau.

Louis-Félix Bourque and Samuel Roy finished the game with a goal and an assist each for Team Lecavalier, while Charles Pigeon picked up two assists. For Team Bourque, three different goal scorers found the back of the net: Samuel Boyer, Emil Leroux and Noah Olmedo-Matte.

Between the pipes, goaltender Antoine Proulx had to make 21 saves to seal the victory, while his counterpart Alexis Cloutier faced 33 shots in the loss.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first twenty minutes of play, despite two man advantages for Team Lecavalier and a power play opportunity for Bourque.

The story was completely different in the second period, however. Team Bourque’s Emil Leroux opened the scoring with a shot from the slot at 3:31. Just under five minutes later, Team Lecavalier replied with Jayden Rousseau’s first tally of the tournament. The team in blue would add three more goals to its lead before heading into the second intermission. Roy and Bourque found the back of the net first before Benjamin Girard followed suit to make it a 4-1 game.

Team Bourque tried to make up its deficit with two goals in the third period. Olmedo-Matte and Boyer each scored to close the gap to 4-3, allowing the gold-and-black club to pull Cloutier for an extra player late in the game. Despite its efforts in the dying seconds, Team Bourque ran out of time to even the score.

We’ll have to wait until the conclusion of the preliminary round to find out when these two teams will play next. However, with today’s results, we already know that both teams are guaranteed to finish at least fourth in the standings.
