Team Bourque won the third-place game with a 5-4 shootout victory over Team Brière on the final day of the QMJHL Cup, Sunday afternoon, at the Centre d’excellence Sports Rousseau.
Team Brière got goals from Enzo Lottin, Dominik Necak, Gabriel Comptois and Elliot Lacroix in the loss. For Team Bourque, the tallies came from the sticks of Samuel Boyer, Zack Miller and Elliot Delisle, twice, in the winning effort. Boyer was also the lone scorer in the shootout.
In net, goalkeeper Vincent Moreau made 31 saves to earn the win, while Xavier Caron made 35 of his own in the loss.
No goals were scored in the first period, with both teams facing shorthanded situations due to indiscipline. Team Bourque took three minor penalties in the opening frame, while Team Brière served two.
The story was completely different in the second period, with the clubs exchanging five goals while avoiding the penalty box. Delisle opened the scoring for Team Bourque at 4:41, but the lead was short-lived as Lottin replied just 10 seconds later with his fifth of the tournament. Boyer would restore Team Bourque’s 2-1 lead 50 seconds later.
The two clubs traded another goal each before the end of the second period. First, Necak tied the score for Team Brière, before Miller replied to make it 3-2 for the club in black and gold. Shots were 27-21 in favor of Team Bourque after 40 minutes of play.
The third period was again rich in goals. First, Lacroix scored a shorthanded unassisted goal to level the score. Then, Delisle scored his second of the game at 14:52 to put Team Bourque back in front, but Team Brière’s reply again came quickly, Comtois forcing overtime by finding the back of the net just 40 seconds later.
After an extra period in which neither side found the back of the net, we headed to the first shootout of the tournament. Boyer gave Team Bourque the victory by being the only goal scorer of the six shootout attempts.
