Team Marchand edges Team Dobson to finish fifth in the tournament

Team Marchand won the game for fifth place in the 2024 QMJHL Cup thanks to a 3-2 overtime victory over Team Dobson on Sunday morning at Boisbriand’s Centre d’excellence Sports Rousseau.

Five different goal scorers padded the scoresheet in the opening game of the final day of the tournament. Will Clark and Nathan Crane were the only scorers for Team Dobson, while Jacob Hartlin, Joshua Henry and Anthony Hurley led Team Marchand to victory.

As for goalkeepers, Zach Clinton made 21 saves in the winning effort, while Will Cole faced 36 shots in the loss.

The first period was a goalless affair, with both Clinton and Cole having to make few saves. There were no penalties called on either side, with Team Marchand heading into the first intermission with an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.

It was Clark who opened the scoring in the second period after showing off his speed, cutting in between the two opposing defenders before scoring for Team Dobson after just 20 seconds of play. Team Marchand failed to equalize and headed to the locker room trailing 1-0.

In the third period, Clinton made some key saves to maintain his one-goal lead. Hartlin made it a 1-1 game with only 48 seconds off the third period clock when he scored his third goal of the tournament. Then, at 12:50, it was Henry who gave Team Marchand its first lead with a goal of his own. Nathan Crane then forced overtime when his goal, scored with 11 seconds left in the game, brought the score to 2-2.

It took just 15 seconds of extra time for Tommy Hurley to score Team Marchand’s game-winning goal, unassisted, giving the black-and-gold team a victory and fifth place overall.
